Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is a UN organization established in 1949 to assist and protect approximately 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees across Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, and Gaza. UNRWA provides essential services including education, healthcare, and social services, operating as the largest UN entity in the Middle East with over 30,000 staff. This role reports to the Head Field Information Management and Technology.
Job Purpose
This Information Systems Officer role is crucial for implementing, administering, and supporting enterprise on-premises and cloud systems within UNRWA's Education Microsoft tenant. The position involves managing messaging and collaboration systems, content management platforms, and IT service management systems. Key responsibilities include ensuring network connectivity in schools, meeting Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and resolving system issues. The role also focuses on user account management for students and staff, developing and maintaining ICT4Education policies and procedures, liaising with vendors, and assisting with information security activities. The incumbent will contribute to the effective use of digital educational tools and enterprise solutions like Microsoft Office 365, ensuring operational efficiency and business continuity through robust system support and documentation.
Responsibilities
The Information Systems Officer is responsible for implementing, administering, and supporting enterprise on-premises and cloud systems, including messaging, collaboration, content management, and IT service management platforms. This includes managing infrastructure networking services (LAN, Wireless, WAN, Internet) for schools and ensuring adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The role involves identifying and resolving system issues, managing user accounts for students, teachers, and staff, and monitoring system performance. Additionally, the officer will develop and maintain quality documentation, create and manage user accounts, and implement ICT4Education policies and procedures. Responsibilities extend to liaising with vendors, assisting with information security activities, participating in enterprise service delivery support, and ensuring compliance with IMT policies and industry standards. Training business counterparts and team members is also part of the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of progressive experience in designing, implementing, and administering Microsoft server technologies, messaging and collaboration systems, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 is required, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Experience with digital learning tools and platforms is desirable. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows desktop technology, Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft 365 solutions, and an ITIL-driven environment is also required.
