The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective running of its Security Guard shifts. This role operates within the Guard Force Management Unit, reporting to the Chief Security Officer through the Officer in Charge of the Compound Security Unit in Abyei.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this Security Guard role is to ensure the effective operation of security shifts within the Guard Force Management Unit. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining physical security at UNISFA premises, controlling access for personnel and vehicles, and conducting thorough searches. This role contributes to the overall safety and security of UN personnel, visitors, and property by preventing unauthorized access, safeguarding assets, and responding to incidents. The Security Guard also assists with traffic control, equipment maintenance, and provides support to new personnel and visitors, ensuring a secure and orderly environment.
Responsibilities
Provide physical access and egress control at UNISFA premises, including screening all personnel, vehicles, and materials. Conduct thorough physical checks and searches of individuals and vehicles entering or exiting UN facilities. Ensure all personnel and visitors visibly display identification before entry and while within the premises. Prevent unauthorized individuals and unknown packages from entering UN facilities. Inspect passengers and baggage at designated points like MOVCON and helipads. Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols to cover the entire UN premises. Assist newly arrived personnel and visitors. Safeguard UN properties, particularly warehouses and storage areas, and manage traffic and vehicle parking. Maintain the serviceability and cleanliness of security equipment, reporting any damage or loss immediately. Be prepared to perform escort duties as required. Verify materials against gate passes before allowing removal from UN premises. Report and register all incidents occurring during the tour of duty. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of progressive experience is required in a local, national, or private police, security, or fire brigade organization. Previous operational or administrative employment in a related field is also acceptable.
