Youth Engagement Project Consultant
Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. Within the Andean Countries Hub, this role supports the Young Gamechangers Initiative (YGI), a project focused on improving youth health and well-being through governance, participation, and public space interventions in intermediary cities in Colombia.
Job Purpose
This consultancy serves as the territorial focal point for the Young Gamechangers Initiative (YGI) in Armenia, Quindío, Colombia. The role is crucial for supporting local coordination, fostering articulation with youth and institutional stakeholders, monitoring project implementation, and managing community processes. The consultant will ensure the strategic positioning of the initiative at the city level, working under the supervision of the Project Coordination Team and the UN-Habitat Andean Countries Hub Coordinator. The primary goal is to facilitate meaningful youth engagement in urban governance and participatory planning, contributing to the delivery of safe, accessible, and healthy public spaces.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include serving as the territorial focal point for the YGI, leading local articulation with youth groups, community organizations, local authorities, and other stakeholders. The role involves supporting the coordination and implementation of participatory processes for public space interventions, tactical urbanism, and co-creation. This includes monitoring activities, facilitating communication between UN-Habitat and local actors, managing necessary permits and authorizations, and organizing workshops and events. The consultant will also assist in implementing participatory methodologies, mapping stakeholders, identifying partnership opportunities, and supporting project visibility and reporting. Additionally, the role provides transversal support to the UN-Habitat Andean Countries Hub on urban governance and youth participation, contributing to knowledge management and the systematization of lessons learned.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in urban development, youth participation, community processes, partnership building, public space projects, resource mobilization, territorial coordination, or governance initiatives is required. Experience working with local governments, civil society organizations, and community-based processes, including implementing participatory methodologies and engaging stakeholders, is essential. Prior experience in Armenia, Quindío, or the Eje Cafetero region is highly desirable.
