Communications Analyst
Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This role supports a project in Belo Horizonte focused on improving municipal infrastructure and urban planning tools for social housing in the Izidora neighborhood.
Job Purpose
This role is to support the implementation of the "Urban Qualification in a Key Neighborhood of Belo Horizonte" project, focusing on improving municipal infrastructure and urban planning tools for social housing in the Izidora area. The purpose is to enable the local population to access safe and sustainable community infrastructure and affordable housing. The Communications Analyst will contribute to transforming this vulnerable area into a model of sustainability and resilience, aligning with the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. This involves developing and executing communication strategies, creating content, managing outreach, and ensuring effective information dissemination to various stakeholders, including local communities, partners, and the public.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement project-specific communication plans and strategies tailored to diverse stakeholders, including local communities and partners. Support the organization of advocacy campaigns, events, and knowledge product development. Coordinate communication activities among project teams and the UN-Habitat Brazil communications team. Prepare communication timelines and production schedules. Develop and implement the project’s visual identity. Create and disseminate communication products such as brochures, press releases, social media content, and audiovisual materials, ensuring compliance with branding guidelines. Prepare and disseminate regular project information to the public and partners. Identify and utilize local communication channels. Coordinate media requests and facilitate access to subject matter experts. Maintain a network of contacts and provide communication coverage of project events, including photography and audiovisual documentation. Produce and publish content for UN-Habitat global and regional websites, as well as social media platforms, and manage online inquiries.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible communications experience at the national or international level is required. Professional experience with local governments, civil society, and advocacy initiatives is necessary. Previous experience working within the Brazilian context is also required. Experience with digital methodologies, media relations, social media content management, and familiarity with urban issues are desirable.
Skills
Excellent writing and proof-reading skills in Portuguese. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, and Canva. In-depth knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube). Photography and video editing skills are desirable. Experience in inter-institutional environments, project management, and monitoring-evaluation. Strong planning, organization, and communication abilities. Teamwork and leadership skills.
