Organizational Context
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva is seeking an intern for the Sri Lanka accountability project. This is a full-time, non-remunerated six-month internship. The role provides students with exposure to UN work, focusing on human rights protection and implementation.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the OHCHR's mission in protecting human rights for all and empowering individuals to realize their rights. The intern will contribute to the Sri Lanka accountability project by assisting with information analysis, research, and data management related to human rights violations and accountability frameworks. This role offers a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical experience within a UN Secretariat entity, understanding the complexities of international human rights work and contributing to a significant project.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Sri Lanka accountability project by reviewing, cataloguing, and analyzing information relevant to the project's mandate, including extracting and consolidating data. Responsibilities include maintaining and updating documentation repositories on human rights violations in Sri Lanka, analyzing datasets, and contributing to statistical outputs. The intern will also conduct desk-based research on accountability frameworks, synthesize information from various sources, and analyze open-source information on human rights violations and international crimes. Additionally, the role involves supporting the planning and coordination of meetings and events, and assisting with information management systems.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. The focus is on academic background and the ability to commence the internship on the agreed date. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
