Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Lao PDR seeks an intern to support its programme activities. This full-time, in-person internship is based in Vientiane Capital and is expected to last for six months. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager and closely with the TOC Team, contributing to the office's mandate in crime prevention and criminal justice.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide practical experience and support to the UNODC's Programme Manager and TOC Team in Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR. The intern will contribute to the overall implementation and coordination of programme activities, focusing on crime prevention and criminal justice initiatives. This role involves assisting with document preparation, communication efforts, stakeholder coordination, and event organization. The internship aims to offer valuable exposure to UN operations, programme management, and international cooperation in a critical development context, fostering the intern's professional growth while supporting the team's objectives and priorities. The intern will gain hands-on experience in drafting reports, managing administrative tasks, and engaging with various partners.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Programme Manager and TOC Team in implementing and coordinating programme activities. Key duties include drafting, editing, and reviewing official documents such as correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and presentations. The role involves contributing to programme communication and visibility by creating content for newsletters, social media, and success stories. Coordination and communication with national counterparts, government authorities, implementing partners, and civil society organizations will be essential. The intern will also assist in organizing meetings, workshops, training activities, and field missions, including logistical and administrative arrangements. Providing administrative support, such as document preparation, filing, record management, and data compilation, is also a core responsibility.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Desirable experience includes the ability to design surveys and data collection tools, experience in drafting reports and presentations, and experience in organizing meetings, workshops, or events.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software applications. Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its Charter. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, showing tolerance for differing opinions. Fluency in spoken and written English is required; fluency in Lao is desirable. Ability to design surveys and data collection tools is desirable. Experience in drafting reports, briefing notes, and presentations is desirable. Experience in organizing meetings, workshops, or events is desirable.
