Organizational Context

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) aims to deliver transformative ideas and actions for Africa, guided by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. This role is situated within the Communication and Media Relations Section (CMRS) of the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES), supporting the organization's strategic communication objectives.

Job Purpose

The Photographer provides specialized photography services to support ECA's communication, documentation, and visibility goals. This involves independently planning and executing photographic assignments, producing high-quality digital visual content, and managing the processing, captioning, and archiving of images. The role is crucial for capturing key events, ensuring comprehensive visual coverage, and maintaining an organized institutional visual archive, all while adhering to professional and organizational standards. The incumbent will contribute to the effective visual storytelling that underpins ECA's mission and outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

The Photographer is responsible for planning and executing photographic coverage of conferences, high-level meetings, and official events, often under tight deadlines and dynamic conditions. This includes applying advanced photographic techniques for optimal composition, lighting, and visual storytelling, and exercising judgment in selecting key moments and subjects. The role also involves independently editing and processing digital images using specialized software to meet professional and organizational standards, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and institutional branding. Furthermore, the incumbent will prepare accurate captions, manage digital image records for an accessible archive, and maintain and troubleshoot photographic equipment to ensure operational readiness.

Work Experience

A minimum of 7 years of professional photographic service experience is required. Experience with current photography technologies, including cameras and editing software, is desirable. Independent experience in shooting, captioning, and posting professional photos on social media platforms is also desirable.
