India Cooling Expert Consultant

Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a consultant to support the Mitigation Branch and UNEP India Office in implementing sustainable urban cooling initiatives in India under the Cool Coalition framework. This role is crucial for advancing UNEP's India Cooling Programme, focusing on analytical and technical project activities.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this consultancy is to provide expert technical assistance for national and subnational sustainable cooling activities in India, encompassing passive cooling, site design, and efficient active cooling. The role involves direct support to real estate developers through design charrettes and technical handholding. Additionally, the consultant will develop knowledge products, tools, training materials, and communication pieces. This position is integral to the delivery of UNEP's India Cooling Programme, contributing to the broader goals of the Cool Coalition by advancing sustainable urban cooling solutions and supporting funding proposal development.

Responsibilities

Provide technical expertise for sustainable cooling implementation in India, including passive cooling, site design, and efficient active cooling. Offer direct technical support to real estate developers, including participation in design charrettes and providing technical handholding. Develop knowledge products, tools, training materials, and communication pieces related to sustainable cooling. Assist with analytical and technical project activities, such as building energy simulations and developing guidelines for passive cooling. Support the development of funding proposals for cooling initiatives. The consultant will be part of the Cooling and Buildings Unit within UNEP's Mitigation Branch, Climate Change Division.

Work Experience

A minimum of ten years of relevant work experience, with a focus on energy, cities, and the environment, is required. Practical experience in multi-stakeholder project development, financing, partnership building, and administration, particularly within the sustainable energy sector, is desired.

Skills

Technical expertise in sustainable cooling (passive and active), building energy simulations, knowledge product development, training delivery, project development, financing, partnership building, and communication. Fluency in English and Hindi.
