Organizational Context
The United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC) in Bogotá seeks a Translation and Editorial Intern. This role is situated within the Office of the Chief of Mission Support, contributing to the mission's operational and communication needs. The internship is open to Colombian nationals and is expected to last for six months.
Job Purpose
The Translation and Editorial Intern will support the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia by assisting with the translation of diverse texts across various subject matters, including political, social, legal, economic, financial, administrative, medical, and technical fields. The intern will ensure translations meet quality and workload standards while integrating a gender perspective. A key aspect of the role involves familiarizing oneself with UNVMC editorial guidelines and United Nations terminology, applying them to source and target texts. Additionally, the intern will support data collection for linguistic services and maintain strict confidentiality and security of information, contributing to the mission's effective communication and documentation.
Responsibilities
Assist with the translation of a wide range of UN documents, ensuring adherence to quality and workload standards and incorporating a gender perspective. Become proficient in UNVMC editorial guidelines, United Nations terminology, and style, applying them to translation tasks. Support the collection of data related to linguistic services provided by the mission. Maintain the highest level of security and confidentiality for all information handled. This role is supervised by the Associate Field Translator and is crucial for the accurate and effective dissemination of information within the mission.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, candidates are encouraged to highlight any relevant training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that would benefit the United Nations. Experience with standard software applications, particularly MS Office, is necessary. Experience with CAT tools and data visualization platforms is considered an asset.
Skills
Excellent command of Spanish and English; proficiency in translation; familiarity with UNVMC editorial guidelines and UN terminology; strong knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams); ability to maintain confidentiality and security; data collection skills; knowledge of CAT tools and data visualization platforms is desirable.
