ASSOCIATE DATA SPECIALIST
Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) support countries in achieving development priorities and the SDGs, as part of a global reform of the UN Development System. This Associate Data Specialist role is situated within the UN RCO in Managua, Nicaragua, reporting to the Head of the Office. The position involves collaboration with internal and external counterparts on data management and analytics.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist is responsible for implementing databases, data collection systems, and data analytics strategies to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This includes identifying trends, improving data processes, acquiring and cleaning data, and maintaining data systems. The role contributes to developing reports, dashboards, and visualizations to support management decision-making and communications. Additionally, the incumbent will track data initiatives, assist with project tasks, gather business requirements, and contribute to building data analytics capacity within the organization. The position also involves staying updated on data analytics best practices and technologies.
Responsibilities
Implement and maintain databases, data collection systems, and data analytics strategies to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze trends and patterns using statistical methods to identify key variables. Improve data analytics processes, acquire and clean data from various sources, and manage databases. Develop reports, dashboards, and visualizations to effectively communicate findings to management. Track and report on the progress of data initiatives. Assist with data collection, initial analysis, and project tasks, escalating unresolved issues. Gather business requirements to support data-driven analysis and identify pain points. Compile data insights and prepare supporting materials for stakeholder communications. Stay current with data analytics best practices, technologies, and tools. Contribute to data preparation and preliminary analysis for model assessments. Support capacity-building activities and trainings on data analytics. Perform administrative tasks related to the work plan.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in research, data analysis, knowledge management, or project management within development cooperation is required. Experience in data quality assurance, data validation, data storytelling, and using visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is desirable.
