Job Purpose
This six-month, UNPAID internship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the work of the Eastern Europe team within the UN's Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations. The intern will gain practical experience in monitoring regional political and security developments, conducting research, and supporting the team's operational activities. This role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to international affairs and peacebuilding efforts, allowing the intern to develop analytical and research skills while assisting senior officials and contributing to the division's mandate. The position is based in New York and can be flexible in terms of work arrangement (hybrid, remote, or in-person).
Responsibilities
The intern will monitor media reports and analyze political and security developments in the Eastern Europe region. Responsibilities include conducting background research on relevant issues and trends, following and reporting on UN Security Council and General Assembly meetings, and attending other relevant events, preparing summary notes. The role also involves providing logistical and administrative support for meetings and events, and preparing briefing materials for senior officials. The intern will contribute to the daily work of the Eastern Europe team, which covers 12 countries and supports liaison offices in Kyiv and Vienna. Performing other assigned duties is also part of the role.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. Applicants are expected to be students in the final year of a university degree program or have completed a graduate degree. The focus is on academic background and relevant field of study rather than prior professional roles.
