Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the agenda and promoting sustainable development within the UN system. This consultancy is situated within the HR Section of the Corporate Services Division in Nairobi, reporting to the Training Officer under the guidance of the Chief of HR Section.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to spearhead the design, development, facilitation, and reporting of a comprehensive learning program titled "Leading with Balance: Attaining Work-Life Balance and the Power of Cross-Cultural Working in Times of Uncertainty." This critical initiative aims to empower UNEP leaders by helping them cultivate a balanced approach to their professional and personal lives, which is essential for enhancing individual well-being and fostering sustainable leadership practices. A significant contribution of this role is to elevate managers’ cultural intelligence, enabling them to effectively lead and manage diverse teams across various cultural contexts. By strengthening cultural understanding and leadership capabilities, the program will ensure UNEP can more effectively capitalize on global perspectives, promoting greater agility and adaptability across its Divisions, Regional Offices, and Multilateral Environmental Agreements, thereby reinforcing the organization's global mandate.
Responsibilities
The consultant is primarily responsible for the end-to-end management and delivery of specialized virtual learning programs. This includes designing, developing, and delivering two distinct cohorts of virtual learning sessions focused on "Leading with Balance: Attaining Work-Life Balance and the Power of Cross-Cultural Working in Times of Uncertainty" for UNEP staff across all Divisions, Regional Offices, and Multilateral Environmental Agreements. Concurrently, the consultant will design, develop, and deliver two additional cohorts of virtual learning sessions covering "Reasoning, Problem-Solving, and Ideation" and "Building an Inclusive Team for Agility and Adaptability," targeting the same audience. Specific deliverables encompass conducting thorough pre-learning needs assessments and generating analytical reports to guide the design and development of all learning resources and activities. The role requires the creation of diverse learning materials, including presentations, comprehensive learning guides, relevant case studies, and practical exercises or projects, all meticulously aligned with identified learning needs and objectives. Furthermore, the consultant will facilitate and deliver highly engaging learning sessions, primarily virtually, employing appropriate adult learning methodologies to ensure effective knowledge transfer and robust skills development. Post-learning, the consultant will administer assessments and compile comprehensive reports detailing participant feedback, achieved learning outcomes, key observations, and valuable lessons learned from the programs.
Work Experience
A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in learning design, facilitation, coaching, and organizational development is required. Desirable experience includes working with UN or international organizations in change management or HR development contexts. Experience in "Leading with Balance: Attaining Work-Life Balance and Harnessing the Power of Cross-Cultural Working in Times of Uncertainty" is also desirable.
Skills
Required skills include strong facilitation abilities with the capacity to engage and motivate participants, excellent communication and presentation skills, and fluency in written and spoken English. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is also desirable.
