Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) coordinates global disaster reduction efforts and supports the implementation of the Sendai Framework. Its new Strategic Framework prioritizes financing for disaster risk reduction. This role supports a project funded by Japan to enhance disaster risk management in the Philippines, focusing on optimizing DRRM funds and integrating private sector perspectives.
Job Purpose
This role serves as a crucial liaison to connect Japanese private sector expertise with the Philippines' disaster risk context. The purpose is to facilitate the integration of business perspectives into disaster risk financing analysis, particularly through the ARISE Japan network. This involves preparing exchange sessions, documenting best practices, and strengthening the connection between public and private investment strategies to enhance resilience in the Philippines and the ASEAN region. The ultimate goal is to leverage private sector knowledge to inform and improve disaster risk reduction and management funding and investment decisions.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include mapping and engaging ARISE Japan member companies interested in Philippines and ASEAN disaster risk financing, particularly insurers and financial institutions. The role involves conducting outreach to secure their participation in project consultations and analytical model development. Facilitating structured consultations to gather business case scenarios and private sector risk perspectives for integration into ROI analysis is essential. Additionally, the consultant will review Japanese risk models focusing on MSMEs and serve as the primary liaison between ARISE Japan and ARISE Philippines, coordinating bilateral exchanges and joint sessions. Support for project workshops, including material preparation and facilitation, and providing regular progress updates are also required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of professional experience in private sector engagement, corporate sustainability, risk financing, or disaster risk reduction is required. Experience in facilitating multi-stakeholder consultations between public and private sectors is also necessary. Prior experience working with Japanese private sector entities, especially in the insurance or financial sectors, is highly desirable.
