Responsibilities
The Programme Management Officer will support countries in assessing and strengthening their readiness for resilient recovery, focusing on pre-disaster preparedness and capacity development. Key duties include establishing partnerships with national and local governments, international organizations, and the private sector to accelerate Sendai Framework implementation. The role involves coordinating the International Recovery Platform (IRP) Secretariat and providing support to its Steering Committee. The officer will work through regional offices to assist Member States in developing robust recovery governance, planning, and financing mechanisms. Responsibilities also encompass conducting research, analyzing data, identifying critical areas for post-disaster recovery, and contributing to policy development. Additionally, the role requires providing support for meetings and conferences, undertaking outreach activities, managing the IRP website, developing communication materials, and participating in field missions. Coordination of budget funding and resource mobilization efforts is also a key aspect of this position.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management is required. Essential experience includes managing programmes in cooperation with governmental structures and working in disaster risk reduction or resilience-related programming/policy, specifically concerning the Sendai Framework. Desirable experience includes three years in post-disaster recovery, particularly 'Build Back Better' initiatives in an international setting, and coordinating humanitarian response within the UN system.
