Organizational Context

The United Nations Secretariat's Department of Operational Support (DOS), specifically the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM), is seeking Data Research interns. OSCM manages a broad scope of services including supply chain planning, logistics, procurement, and aviation safety, supporting nearly 100 global client entities. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to OSCM's mission and learn about the UN.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to provide practical experience in data research within the UN's Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM). The intern will support the team by gathering and analyzing data from diverse sources, developing reports, and creating visualizations. The role contributes to improving data-driven decision-making and program implementation within OSCM by identifying trends, applying statistical methods, and assisting in the development of data science solutions. Interns will gain exposure to UN operations and contribute to significant projects, enhancing the efficiency and responsiveness of supply chain solutions for global partners.

Responsibilities

The Data Research Intern will gather and analyze data from various databases and sources, employing statistical and mathematical programming. Responsibilities include developing reports and visual representations, maintaining databases, and providing consultation on appropriate statistical methodologies. The intern will use statistical software to interpret results and design study activities. Key duties involve supporting team members with data cleaning, maintaining data systems, and independently creating simple data visualizations. The role also includes translating data findings into written reports or presentations for management, identifying trends using basic machine learning and statistical methods, and contributing to the development of data science solutions to support organizational planning and decision-making.

Work Experience

No prior work experience is required for this internship. However, relevant coursework, advanced studies, or skills in areas such as Analytics and Business Intelligence are beneficial. Prior completion of a UN internship should be noted if applicable. Familiarity with data analysis tools is considered desirable.
