The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC), based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, focuses on implementing UN-Habitat's agenda within the country. This role supports the Brazil office's work programme and portfolio.
Job Purpose
The Information Assistant will support the UN-Habitat Brazil office in executing its work programme and portfolio. This involves assisting with capacity-building activities, data collection, processing, and analysis for urban and environmental information. The role contributes to the formulation and implementation of effective, sustainable, and socially fairer urban policies by providing technical support for data management, analysis, and research, ultimately aiding public policy planning and project execution.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting the organization of capacity-building activities for government teams, assisting in the calculation of urban and environmental data and indicators, and extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases. The role involves providing technical support for data collection, production, analysis, and management, ensuring quality control of collected data, and analyzing results with a territorial vision to support public policy planning. Additionally, the Information Assistant will accompany studies and research, revise data, support technical teams with analysis and monitoring, document meetings, and maintain an organized information file.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressive experience in research and/or project management in urban areas is required. Professional and academic experience in data analysis, information, and databases is also necessary. Experience with urban data in Brazil and implementing public policies in informal settlements is desirable, as is previous experience within the United Nations.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search engines is required. Command of programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL is necessary. Experience with data visualization software and GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS) is desirable.
