Job Purpose
The Data Assistant will support the UN-Habitat Brazil office in the execution of its work programme and portfolio. This involves assisting in the elaboration and calculation of data, variables, and indicators, as well as extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases. The role contributes to the creation of georeferenced information, revision of spatial data documents, and providing technical support for data collection, production, analysis, and management. The position also supports the drafting of territorial analyses for public policy planning, studies on informal settlements, and monitoring of field data, ultimately contributing to effective project implementation and urban development initiatives.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in the calculation of variables and indicators, and extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases (e.g., IBGE). The role involves presenting data in various formats like tables, charts, graphs, and maps, and supporting the creation of georeferenced information. Responsibilities also extend to revising spatial data documents, providing technical support for data collection, production, analysis, and management of urban indicators. The Data Assistant will support the drafting of territorial analyses for public policy planning, research on informal settlements, and monitoring/quality control of field data. Additionally, the role involves organizing information files, supporting programme management activities for deadline and quality compliance, and documenting meetings and training events.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of professional experience in urban-related project or programme management is required. Experience in data analysis, data visualization, reporting, and processing for public policy is also required. Experience with public policies in informal settlements and within the Brazilian context is necessary. Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search tools is required. Good command of GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS) and knowledge of R or Python are necessary. Experience with data visualization tools, project management methodologies, and GitHub or GitLab is desirable.
