Job Purpose
This Data Analyst role is crucial for the effective implementation of UN-Habitat's projects in Brazil. The purpose is to provide essential data analysis and support to ensure the successful execution of the work programme and portfolio. The analyst will contribute by collecting, processing, and analyzing data, creating visualizations, and supporting capacity-building activities. This role directly supports UN-Habitat's mission to transform cities into more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable places by providing data-driven insights for policy formulation and project implementation, ultimately contributing to better urban development and improved living conditions for urban populations.
Responsibilities
The Data Analyst will support the implementation of UN-Habitat's work programme and portfolio by assisting in the elaboration and calculation of variables and indicators. Key duties include extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases and statistics, presenting findings in various formats (tables, graphs, charts), and elaborating or supporting the creation of georeferenced information. The role involves revising documents related to spatial data, participating in and organizing capacity-building activities for UN-Habitat and government staff, and providing technical support for data collection, production, analysis, and management. Additionally, the analyst will contribute to the systematization of successful practices, provide inputs for risk identification, and maintain an organized information file.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of professional experience in project/programme management related to urban themes in Brazil is required. Experience in data analysis, report generation, public policy information, data visualization, data collection, processing, and analysis is also necessary. Previous experience within the UN System is considered desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search engines. Competence in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS). Desirable skills include programming languages (R, Python), data visualization tools, project management methodologies, and basic experience with platforms like GitHub/GitLab.
