Organizational Context

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Manama serves as the primary source of information on the UN system in Bahrain. It extends strategic communications support to Qatar and the UAE, aiming to foster public understanding and support for UN activities by engaging local audiences and partners, thereby bringing the UN closer to the people it serves.

Job Purpose

This internship within the UNIC Manama, part of the Department of Global Communications, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the UN's mission. The role focuses on promoting public understanding and support for the UN's aims and activities by communicating its work to a local audience in their language. The intern will assist in engaging local and regional partners, helping to bridge the gap between the UN and the communities it serves. This position is supervised by the Director of UNIC Manama and is designed to provide practical experience in international communications and public outreach within a dynamic, multicultural environment.

Responsibilities

The intern will provide essential support to UNIC Manama's communication efforts. Key duties include assisting in the creation of content for the Centre's online platforms and social media accounts, as well as monitoring and moderating these platforms. The role involves supporting the design, production, and distribution of informational materials. Additionally, the intern will help organize events and meetings, contribute to preparing media monitoring reports, and provide translation support. These responsibilities are designed to offer hands-on experience in various aspects of public information and communications within an international organization.

No prior working experience is required for this internship. The program is designed for students and recent graduates to gain practical experience. The focus is on the applicant's educational background, coursework, and skills that can benefit the United Nations during the internship period.
