Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is a UN organization established in 1949 to assist and protect approximately 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees across Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank, and Gaza. UNRWA provides essential services including education, healthcare, and social services, operating as the largest UN mission in the Middle East with over 30,000 staff. This role is within the Projects Office in Field Office West Bank, reporting to the Projects Officer.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Projects Officer in managing and implementing projects within the West Bank Field Office. The Assistant Projects Officer will be instrumental in identifying project needs, developing proposals, and coordinating implementation with various departments and programs. A key aspect of the role involves monitoring project progress, ensuring adherence to timelines, and managing financial expenditures in collaboration with finance and administrative officers. The position also requires contributing to reporting, assisting with donor visits, and developing plans for fund utilization post-project completion. The ultimate goal is to contribute to UNRWA's mission of helping Palestine refugees achieve their full potential in human development by ensuring effective project delivery and support.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Projects Officer will assist the Projects Officer in identifying and reviewing project needs, and in preparing individual project proposals. This includes maintaining the Field's project master list. The role involves coordinating project implementation with relevant programs and departments, and reporting any delays or issues to the Projects Officer. Responsibilities extend to assisting in drafting project proposals, progress reports, and final reports. Financial oversight is crucial, requiring monitoring and control of project expenditures in coordination with administrative and finance officers, and assisting in developing plans for remaining funds. The incumbent will collect data for monthly monitoring reports and support the Projects Officer during donor visits. Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor are also part of the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant experience in project development and project management is required. Desirable experience includes contributing to project proposals, conducting results-based management and performance reporting, preparing high-quality narrative and donor reports, and monitoring project budgets. Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems and coordinating with diverse stakeholders is also desirable.
Skills
