Senior Programme Management Consultant (Archives, Digitization, and Research)
Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Relief and Social Service Department (RSSD) in Amman is implementing a digital archive initiative. This Senior Programme Management Consultant role supports the continued implementation of this program, which is already underway. The consultant will report to the Director of RSSD and provide advisory, coordination, planning, monitoring, and reporting support to strengthen overall program delivery.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide expert programme management support to the UN Secretariat's Relief and Social Service Department (RSSD) for the ongoing digital archive initiative. The consultant will oversee programme execution, ensuring effective coordination, delivery tracking, and risk management. Key contributions include reviewing progress, identifying and resolving bottlenecks, facilitating stakeholder collaboration, and supporting management decision-making to ensure the successful implementation and completion of the digital archive project. This role is crucial for strengthening programme delivery and achieving the initiative's objectives within the established timelines and scope.
Responsibilities
The Senior Programme Management Consultant will be responsible for reviewing the current status of the digital archive initiative, including workplans, deliverables, timelines, risks, contracts, and stakeholder arrangements. They will develop and maintain integrated delivery plans, schedules, risk registers, issue logs, and reporting tools. The consultant will provide day-to-day coordination across various stakeholders, including project teams, consultants, and vendors. They will track progress diligently, identify delays and bottlenecks, and recommend corrective actions. Responsibilities also include supporting coordination of digitization, validation, verification, metadata, and knowledge management activities, as well as facilitating communication between archive and research stakeholders. Advising senior management on implementation priorities, risks, and governance, and preparing progress reports and other documentation are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressive experience managing complex archive, research, digitization, or related programmes is required. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, external providers, and managing programme integration, risks, delivery tracking, budgets, contracts, and stakeholder engagement is essential. Experience supporting donor-funded projects and providing strategic advice to senior management is highly desirable.
Skills
Strong programme and project management skills; experience with complex, multi-stakeholder programmes; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools; knowledge of archive, records management, digitization, validation, verification, metadata, research documentation, or knowledge management processes; ability to maintain delivery trackers, risk registers, and reporting tools; understanding of digital tools, AI, and Human-in-the-Loop processes.
