This role reports to the Electro-mechanical Design Lead Engineer.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for carrying out detailed mechanical designs for various building projects such as schools, hospitals, and shelters, ensuring compliance with UNRWA's needs, policies, and relevant codes. The position contributes to tender document preparation, identifies non-standard items for Bill of Quantities, and researches new technologies and materials to enhance design effectiveness and cost-efficiency. It involves providing technical advice for alterations, writing technical reports, and liaising with construction teams to resolve design issues during implementation. The role also coordinates with other designers to optimize building integrity and cost, and assists in drafting terms of reference for consultants, ensuring adherence to design standards and procedures. The incumbent will also update mechanical design drawings based on as-built information and maintain relevant documentation.
Responsibilities
Execute detailed mechanical designs for building projects (schools, hospitals, shelters) adhering to agency standards, policies, and codes. Prepare tender documents, including specifications for special design needs and descriptions for the Bill of Quantities. Research and integrate emerging technologies, materials, and green elements into designs for improved performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Provide technical advice and design solutions for alterations to agency premises, including writing inspection reports. Collaborate with construction teams to address mechanical design issues during implementation and update drawings based on as-built information. Coordinate with other designers to optimize mechanical systems for building integrity and cost efficiency. Assist in defining consultant terms of reference and supervising their work, ensuring compliance with design criteria. Maintain and update mechanical design drawings and relevant technical instructions.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of relevant experience is required, with at least two years focused on design, including public buildings and developmental projects. Proficiency in mechanical design software and computer-aided design (e.g., AutoCAD) is essential. Experience with 'greening' approaches and protection needs is considered desirable.
