Programme Management Intern: Supporting the implementation of the non-staff capacities of the different programmes in the UNOCT Office in Madrid
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) in Madrid seeks an intern to support the implementation of non-staff capacities for its programmes, particularly the Vulnerable Targets Programme. UNOCT's mandate includes providing leadership on counter-terrorism, enhancing system-wide coordination, strengthening capacity-building assistance to Member States, and improving visibility and resource mobilization for UN counter-terrorism efforts.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in programme management and policy matters related to counter-terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism. The intern will support the UNOCT programme office in Madrid by assisting with various tasks, including drafting documents, attending and summarizing meetings, organizing events, conducting research and analysis, maintaining databases, and supporting training initiatives. This role contributes to the effective delivery of UNOCT's mandate and strengthens strategic engagement with UN system partners, offering valuable exposure to international counter-terrorism work.
Responsibilities
Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, and presentations. Attend and summarize conferences and meetings. Support the organization of meetings, conferences, and side events to enhance strategic engagement with UN system partners. Conduct data collection, research, and analysis on relevant counter-terrorism and prevention of violent extremism topics. Assist in maintaining databases and support the review of key publications. Help prepare training and learning events and other capacity-building initiatives. Adhere to all applicable UN rules, regulations, and directives. Provide copies of all materials prepared during the internship to the receiving office.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Previous internship experience within the UN Common System is limited to six months.
Skills
Proficiency in standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its ideals. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance for differing opinions. Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
