Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader fighting drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism. Guided by international instruments, UNODC guards the UNCAC and provides technical assistance to States Parties. This internship is located in the Corruption and Financial Crime Branch (CFB) of the Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA) in Vienna, supporting the Branch's mandate.
Job Purpose
The UNODC leads global efforts against drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism, guided by international instruments and UN standards. It acts as the guardian of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), providing secretariat support and technical assistance to States Parties for effective implementation. UNODC leverages extensive expertise to deliver tailored assistance to Member States and stakeholders, developing tools and facilitating good practice exchange in anti-corruption. This internship, located in the Corruption and Financial Crime Branch (CFB) in Vienna, aims to support the Branch's daily communications work, contributing to UNODC's mandate by enhancing information dissemination and public engagement on critical issues. The intern will assist in tracking information, drafting content, and supporting communication campaigns.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the daily communications work of the Corruption and Financial Crime Branch. Key duties include tracking, researching, and analyzing information on assigned topics, gathering data from diverse sources, and assessing news value and potential impact. The role involves drafting web stories and social media posts to disseminate information effectively. The intern will also assist with the implementation of the Section’s communication campaigns, contributing to broader outreach efforts. Furthermore, responsibilities extend to developing graphics for social media and the website to enhance visual communication, and creating monthly social media reports to monitor and evaluate communication performance. Other assigned duties will also be undertaken to support the Branch's operational needs.
Work Experience
No prior working experience is required for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. The ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions, is also essential.
