Organizational Context
UN-Habitat is the UN Human Settlements Programme, promoting socially and environmentally sustainable cities and adequate housing for all. Headquartered in Nairobi, with regional support from ROLAC in Brazil, it operates under key UN declarations and the New Urban Agenda. The Mesoamerica office addresses challenges in Mexican cities, such as inequality, unsustainable resource management, and urban insecurity, through strategic urban planning and development.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to support UN-Habitat Mesoamerica's visual identity strategy by creating clear 2D and 3D graphic content that effectively communicates and enhances the visibility of the organization's mandate. This position contributes significantly to UN-Habitat's overarching goal of promoting socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements and ensuring adequate housing for all. By developing compelling visual materials, the analyst will help mitigate the negative impacts of rapid, unsustainable urbanization and highlight the benefits of sustainable urban development, ultimately reducing urban poverty and improving quality of life. The role is crucial in translating complex urban challenges in Mexican cities, such as social inequality and unsustainable resource management, into accessible visual narratives. This supports the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and multi-level urban policies, fostering inclusive urban planning and creating viable solutions for territorial disparities and inequities. The visual communication efforts will strengthen the organization's positioning and engagement with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The Analyst will primarily focus on two key areas: Institutional Identity and Graphic/Editorial Design. Under Institutional Identity, responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining the sub-regional office's graphic identity and associated projects, ensuring alignment with global UN-Habitat guidelines. This involves proposing and applying consistent color palettes, typographies, visual styles, and graphic resources. The role also requires creating, updating, and disseminating graphic identity manuals for specific projects and campaigns, and overseeing the correct application of visual identity across all graphic and audiovisual materials produced by the office and its partners. Coordination with communication, technical, program teams, and allies is essential for material production, ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines, copyright, image usage, and credits. For Graphic, Editorial, and Layout Design, the analyst will support the creative conceptualization of communication products to enhance visibility, coherence, and impact of institutional messages. This includes designing and laying out graphic materials for project dissemination, such as infographics, brochures, reports, editorial publications, and promotional items. Developing both printed and digital materials like stationery, folders, banners, signage, publication covers, diplomas, and presentations is also a core duty. Finally, the analyst is responsible for preparing final files for print and digital distribution, ensuring quality standards, accessibility, and accurate graphic reproduction.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience is required in institutional graphic and editorial design, production and editing of audiovisual content, and the development of 2D and 3D communication materials for both digital and print environments. While not mandatory, prior work experience within the United Nations System will be considered a valuable asset.
Skills
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects). Experience in basic-to-intermediate motion graphics and animation. Technical knowledge in lighting, framing, audiovisual narrative, and b-roll management. Expertise in preparing files for print and digital formats, including optimization. Strong organizational and project management skills for parallel projects. Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish (required) and English (advantage). High precision and professionalism in document production and editing. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural and social sensitivity, and collaborative work ability. Solid computer skills, including advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and email.
