PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT OFFICER
Organizational Context
The Regional Commissions New York Office (RCNYO) serves as a joint coordination, representation, and policy advice hub at the global level for the five United Nations Regional Commissions. The incumbent reports to the Director of RCNYO, contributing to the office's mandate and scope.
Job Purpose
The Programme Management Officer, reporting to the Director of RCNYO, plays a crucial role in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and related global policy frameworks. This position involves developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes and projects relevant to the Regional Commissions. The officer monitors policy debates, prepares substantive written outputs, and provides support for intergovernmental processes and coordination mechanisms. A key aspect is facilitating communication and outreach to highlight the work of the Regional Commissions and promote regional perspectives in global discussions, ensuring effective engagement and follow-up on outcomes.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and evaluate assigned programmes and projects, monitoring their progress and identifying corrective actions. Analyze and report on policy debates and decisions within UN global intergovernmental processes. Prepare various written outputs, including background papers, reports, and publications, and coordinate inputs from Regional Commissions for joint initiatives. Provide substantive and organizational support for meetings and conferences, ensuring follow-up on outcomes. Support the participation of Regional Commissions in UN system-wide coordination and inter-agency processes, including stakeholder engagement and policy coordination. Undertake communication and outreach activities to promote regional perspectives in global policy discussions. Backstop coordination efforts among Regional Commissions and facilitate interactions with permanent missions and UN entities. Collect and analyze data to identify trends, providing insights through visualizations for data-driven planning and reporting.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, or a related area, with international-level experience focused on economic, social, or sustainable development. Experience within the UN System or comparable international organizations is desirable, as is experience in data analytics.
Skills
Professionalism, communication, planning, and organizing. Ability to conduct research and analysis, collect and interpret data, manage priorities, and work effectively in a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in planning and organizing tasks efficiently.
