Organizational Context
The Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) at the UN Secretariat in New York leads and coordinates the implementation of internationally agreed development goals, including the 17 SDGs. This internship offers a dynamic environment to engage with SDG implementation, testing new methodologies and contributing to various activities.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide hands-on experience within the UN Secretariat's DESA/DSDG. The intern will contribute to promoting and coordinating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by engaging in research, analysis, and drafting of documents. The role involves supporting intergovernmental conferences, capacity-building events, webinars, and online training sessions. A key aspect is collaborating with diverse stakeholders globally, assisting in the organization of events, and contributing to outreach efforts, including social media. The intern will gain practical experience in SDG partnership reviews, event organization, and strengthen organizational and political skills in a real-time, dynamic UN environment.
Responsibilities
Support the drafting of concept notes for events focused on stakeholder mobilization for SDG engagement. Contribute to implementing stakeholder engagement strategies, including summarizing online consultation inputs and drafting outreach materials. Conduct research and analysis, and draft/review documents on various SDG-related topics. Assist in organizing in-person, virtual, and hybrid events and training sessions, including agenda preparation, background material drafting, and technical support. Monitor and manage substantive exchanges during events, draft public information materials, and support outreach activities. Review SDG Partnerships and follow up on their implementation through analysis and research. Research and prepare papers and reports related to the SDGs and international conferences. Support stakeholder engagement in intergovernmental events and conferences. Provide general office support, including correspondence processing and maintaining online records. Assist with website content updates and other ad hoc activities related to the SDGs.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to sustainable development is necessary. Knowledge of sustainable development issues is considered an advantage.
