The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) serves as the UN headquarters in Africa, supporting UNEP, UN-Habitat, and the Resident Coordination System globally. It provides essential administrative, security, conference, and information services. These positions are within the Conference and Client Support Section of the ICT Service at UNON, reporting to the Senior Audio Visual Technician.
Job Purpose
These positions are for a When Actually Employed (WAE) roster to support conference operations and general duties within the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON). The role involves setting up, testing, and operating a wide range of audiovisual and video-conferencing equipment, ensuring smooth conference operations, and providing technical support. Responsibilities include assisting with equipment management, post-production tasks, control room operations, and data analysis to support continuous service improvement and decision-making. The aim is to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of audiovisual services for UN meetings and events.
Responsibilities
Conference Operations: Set up, test, and operate audiovisual equipment including simultaneous interpretation, public address, recording, hybrid integration, remote interpretation, wireless systems, captioning, webstreaming, and video-conferencing systems according to standard operating procedures. Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met. Assist with and monitor equipment moves, additions, changes, mobilization, and demobilization, adhering to safety standards. Guide and monitor external contractors for third-party equipment installation and integration. Liaise with relevant sections (ICTS Infrastructure, Conference Services, Facilities Management, UN Security) for seamless operations and collect client feedback. General Duties: Support preventive maintenance activities, store management, and asset lifecycle management. Assist with post-production tasks such as media asset management, extraction, video editing, tagging, archiving, and distribution. Support Conference Control Room operations. Assist with cost estimations, expenditure reporting, and record-keeping. Contribute to workflow analysis, project support, and continuous service improvement initiatives. Assist in data collection, analysis, and preparation of reports and dashboards.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant experience in audio/visual, information technology, or engineering/electronic fields is required. This minimum is reduced by two years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Experience supporting meetings and conferences in large, international, multilingual organizations is desirable.
