Consultant for ATHIS Training Facilitation (Sorocaba)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. Its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is based in Rio de Janeiro. UN-Habitat Brazil collaborates with government levels, civil society, and the private sector to implement effective urban policies. This role supports a project focused on Technical Assistance for Social Housing (ATHIS).
Job Purpose
The Consultant for ATHIS Training Facilitation will support the implementation of the ATHIS project in Sorocaba, Brazil. This role is crucial for equipping professionals with the necessary skills to bridge the gap between policy and practice in social housing. The consultant will develop and deliver training programs for municipal professionals, CSOs, NGOs, CBOs, and architecture/urbanism professionals. The purpose is to ensure these stakeholders gain the technical knowledge required to implement sustainable and equitable housing solutions, contributing to UN-Habitat's mandate of transforming cities into more inclusive and resilient places. The role involves close collaboration with UN-Habitat teams and project partners.
Responsibilities
The consultant will support the ATHIS project by developing initial premises and identifying priority thematic areas for training. This includes creating a comprehensive training plan and materials structured into three modules for different target audiences: Municipal Professionals, CSOs/NGOs/CBOs, and Architecture/Urbanism professionals. The role involves delivering these training sessions, emphasizing practical, hands-on learning and field-based activities. Additionally, the consultant will provide technical support for developing a Monitoring and Evaluation strategy, conduct virtual capacity-building sessions for global south ATHIS professionals, and design/apply mechanisms to assess learning outcomes. Reporting on training activities and participating in field missions are also key responsibilities.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of experience in urban development and/or social housing in Brazil is required. Experience in capacity building programs and/or teaching is also mandatory. Experience with social housing, South-South Cooperation, social area coordination, fieldwork, and previous work with the United Nations are desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows and Office packages, web search engines, technological tools, software, online platforms, and online event/conference tools is required. Knowledge of project management methodologies is desirable. Competencies include professionalism, planning and organization, communication, and teamwork. Fluency in Portuguese is required, with working knowledge of English being desirable.
