Organizational Context
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) works globally to protect human rights, empower individuals, and assist duty-bearers in upholding these rights. This internship is within the Europe and Central-Asia Regional Hub, based in Vienna, contributing to the OHCHR's overarching mission.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the OHCHR's mission to protect and promote human rights globally. The intern will gain practical experience by assisting Human Rights Officers in the Europe and Central Asia Regional Hub. Key contributions include compiling information, analyzing human rights issues, maintaining contact with stakeholders, supporting special rapporteurs' missions, assisting with Universal Periodic Review processes, preparing background documents, and organizing meetings. The role provides a foundational understanding of OHCHR's mandates, policies, and activities, contributing to the effective implementation of human rights protection in the region.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the OHCHR's mission by compiling and analyzing human rights information and documents. Responsibilities include maintaining contact with UN Country Teams, human rights offices, NGOs, and national human rights institutions. The intern will assist in coordinating missions for special rapporteurs and liaising with thematic mechanisms. Support will also be provided for Universal Periodic Review (UPR) follow-up activities. Additionally, the role involves collecting information for technical papers and speeches, contributing to programme/project activities aligned with study areas, and assisting in the organization of meetings, seminars, and official missions. Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor is also expected.
Work Experience
