Job Purpose
This role is responsible for carrying out preliminary and detailed structural design for various UNRWA projects, including schools, hospitals, shelters, and water infrastructure. The purpose is to ensure that all structures are designed to withstand calculated loads safely and cost-effectively, adhering to agency needs, policies, design criteria, and international codes. The position contributes to the preparation of tender documents, material suitability checks, geotechnical report evaluations, and provides technical advice for alterations and inspections. The engineer will also coordinate with field teams, update design drawings, and liaise with other designers to optimize structural integrity and constructability while minimizing costs.
Responsibilities
Perform preliminary and detailed structural design for diverse UNRWA projects such as schools, hospitals, shelters, and water storage facilities, ensuring compliance with agency standards and international codes. Optimize structural designs for load-bearing capacity and cost-efficiency, utilizing relevant software and maintaining standard details. Contribute to tender document preparation, including writing specifications and descriptions for Bills of Quantities. Evaluate material suitability, analyze structural component configurations, and assess geotechnical reports, providing recommendations for design improvements. Offer technical advice for building alterations and inspections, writing detailed structural reports and using simulations to predict structural behavior. Coordinate with construction site teams on design issues, update as-built drawings, and liaise with other disciplines to ensure constructability and structural integrity.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of relevant experience is required, including at least two years in planning large projects with a focus on foundation works and geotechnical report assessment. Proficiency in structural design software and computer-aided design (CAD) programs is essential. Experience with international codes, standards, and value engineering is desirable.
