CCAC Junior Super Pollutant Specialist
Organizational Context
The UNEP-convened Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a global partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and civil society, focused on integrated climate and clean air solutions. It targets fast action to reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) like methane and HFCs. The CCAC Secretariat, hosted by UNEP's Industry & Economy Division in Paris, also provides services for the Global Methane Pledge. This role sits within the CCAC Secretariat.
Job Purpose
The Junior Super Pollutant Specialist will support the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) Secretariat in its mission to mitigate short-lived climate pollutants, particularly within the cooling sector. This involves coordinating partner engagement, managing cooling-related projects, and assisting the CCAC TEAP Manager. A key contribution will be developing strategies for utilizing carbon finance in super pollutant mitigation and coordinating CCAC's participation in major international events like COP31 and MOP38. The role aims to advance global climate and clean air solutions by facilitating strategic initiatives and stakeholder collaboration.
Responsibilities
The specialist will facilitate active engagement of CCAC partners and industry in the Cooling Hub, and lead participation in networks such as the Cool Coalition. Key duties include supporting the successful implementation and management of 3-5 CCAC cooling projects, collaborating with the Programme Management Officer. The role involves providing support to the CCAC TEAP Manager, including assisting with topic selection and integrating lessons from the Montreal Protocol TEAP. Furthermore, the specialist will organize meetings to develop a strategy for utilizing carbon finance in super pollutant mitigation. Event coordination is also crucial, encompassing support for engagement with the COP31 Presidency and organizing events at COP31 and MOP38, as well as the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Kigali Amendment.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in short-lived climate pollutants is required. Candidates must also possess demonstrated experience in country and stakeholder engagement, as well as a proven track record in organizing events.
Skills
Proficiency in research and writing, including policy briefs, case studies, key messages, implementation plans, and sectoral strategies and guidance. Fluency in English (written and oral) is required. Knowledge of Turkish or an additional UN language is considered an asset.
