Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. The Data and Statistics Unit (DSU) leads SDG 11 and New Urban Agenda monitoring, developing globally applicable methodologies for urban data generation, capacity building, and reporting. This role supports the development of the Global Urban Monitoring Framework – Shanghai Adapted Index (SAI).
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support the development and rollout of the Shanghai Adapted Index (SAI) and its framework in selected cities. The role involves contributing to technical discussions, research, and analysis for the SAI, including its framework development, indicator refinement, and application methodology. The consultant will also be responsible for developing capacity-building materials, facilitating technical exchanges, coordinating with partners, and organizing related events to ensure the effective implementation and integration of the SAI within UN-Habitat's broader initiatives and global monitoring efforts.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include implementing the SAI work plan, leading the development of capacity-building activities and digital toolkits, and supporting SAI application scenarios through research and analysis. The consultant will facilitate technical exchanges with partners, coordinate collaboration among UN-Habitat teams and external stakeholders, and manage research activities related to the integration of SAI with other UN-Habitat initiatives. Organizing and supporting SAI-related events, contributing to knowledge products, and providing technical and programmatic support to the UMF team are also core duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience in data analytics, indices, development of methodologies for measurement frameworks, or research on urban and human settlements issues is required. Experience with the UN system, international settings, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or the New Urban Agenda is highly desirable. Experience in organizing technical workshops or designing capacity-building materials is also beneficial.
