Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this Data Analyst role is to support the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in its climate finance data analysis, a key component of its collaboration with the Government of Sweden on Climate Resilience. The role contributes to the Arab Centre for Climate Change Policies, specifically its climate finance work pillar within the Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability Cluster. The consultant will update and provide comprehensive datasets on climate finance flows to Arab States at both regional and country levels. This includes developing three sector-specific datasets (water, energy, food) with associated visualizations and key messages. A crucial contribution involves preparing comparative analyses between international climate finance flows and other financial datasets. The role ensures the delivery of vetted data files and presentation materials, directly informing ESCWA's strategic initiatives for inclusive sustainable development in the region.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Cluster Lead for Climate Change and Natural Resources Sustainability, the Data Analyst will undertake several key responsibilities to advance climate finance analysis. This includes delivering comprehensive datasets and detailed analysis of aggregated international climate finance flows to the Arab Region and individual Arab States. Specifically, the role involves creating one primary data file and three sector-specific data files focusing on water, energy, and food, all based on various indicators and existing ESCWA classification systems. A core duty is to develop compelling and clear visualizations for each indicator within these datasets, accompanied by at least three concise key messages summarizing the findings. The consultant will also be responsible for preparing a robust comparative analysis, contrasting international climate finance flows to the Arab Region with three other relevant financial datasets to provide broader context. Furthermore, the role requires submitting all five dataset files to ESCWA for thorough review and diligently incorporating any feedback or comments received to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Finally, the Data Analyst will prepare five professional PowerPoint slide decks, presenting the finalized visualizations and key messages derived from the vetted data files, ensuring clear and impactful communication of critical findings to stakeholders.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in data analytics related to climate change, natural resources management, or environmental fields is required. Demonstrated professional experience specifically working with climate finance datasets is also essential.
Skills
Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Fluency in English and Arabic is also required for this position.
