KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT OFFICER (Fixed - Term Limited)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and is the UN's focal point for urbanization. In Afghanistan, UN-Habitat implements agile, community-driven projects addressing humanitarian crises, recovery, and basic needs, focusing on vulnerable populations in informal settlements. The office collaborates with the UN country team and partners, aligning with the UN Strategic Framework for Afghanistan.
Job Purpose
The Knowledge Management Officer will support UN-Habitat Afghanistan's efforts to enhance understanding, advocate for, and mobilize resources for community-centered approaches to housing, basic services, and disaster resilience. This role focuses on assisting vulnerable populations in urban informal settlements. The officer will contribute to the effective execution of projects, monitor progress, analyze impacts, and support resource mobilization. Key functions include strengthening knowledge sharing, coordinating with project teams and field staff, and building relationships with partners and research institutions to foster learning and improve program delivery within the challenging Afghan context.
Responsibilities
Supports project teams in effective and efficient project execution, including work plans, budgets, and logical frameworks, providing advisory support and field monitoring. Participates in project development, resource mobilization, implementation, and donor reporting. Monitors progress, analyzes impacts, and reviews reports for donor reporting and advocacy. Enhances internal learning by coordinating project teams and building national staff capacity in programming, partnerships, and donor relations. Organizes and coordinates the preparation of various written outputs, including reports and advocacy papers. Ensures timely reporting to partners, regional office, and headquarters. Liaises with donors, particularly the Government of Japan and JICA, and builds strong relations with multilateral and bilateral partners. Promotes information sharing and coordination with stakeholders, strengthens knowledge sharing within the Country Office, and coordinates outreach activities. Produces visibility materials and designs information for website updates. Supports resource mobilization efforts and ensures inter-agency collaboration in knowledge management. Supervises national staff as required and collects/analyzes data for insights and reporting using data visualization methods.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in human settlements programs within crisis or displacement contexts is required. Experience in human settlements development, partnerships, donor relations, and project/program management or design is essential. Experience in human settlements advocacy and implementation within the UN system or similar international organizations, and in the Asia-Pacific region, is desirable. Two or more years of experience in data analytics is also desirable.
