Job Purpose
This consultancy role supports the effective implementation of a Solid Waste Management (SWM) project in Mumbai, with a primary focus on plastic pollution. The consultant will coordinate daily activities with various stakeholders, including government, civil society, research institutions, and the private sector. The objective is to map expertise, align efforts, and assist the Government of India in successfully executing the project. This involves targeted assessments, actionable planning, stakeholder capacity building, and knowledge generation to support scalable, locally relevant solutions for a climate-responsive, circular plastic waste management system. The consultant will report to the Head of the UNEP India Country Office.
Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day functioning of the SWM project in Mumbai, focusing on plastic pollution. Coordinate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, research institutions, inter-governmental and multilateral organizations, the private sector, funding agencies, and philanthropic organizations. Map stakeholder expertise and align efforts to support the Government of India's effective project implementation. Contribute to targeted assessments, actionable planning, stakeholder capacity building, and knowledge generation. Support the design and implementation of scalable, locally relevant solutions for a climate-responsive, circular plastic waste management system. Ensure the project activities are completed and contribute to the overall success of the SWM initiative.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in solid waste management, with a specific focus on plastic waste management, is required. Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders in this field is desirable. Experience in planning and executing outreach activities (online and offline), working with developing countries and international institutions, and collaborating with the Government of India or national institutions are also desirable.
