Organizational Context
This position is within the Visitors Services Section of the Department of Global Communications at UN Headquarters in New York. The section manages guided tours, public inquiries, and the speakers' bureau, serving nearly half a million visitors annually. The Treasury Clerk supports the Guided Tours Operation as part of the Administrative Unit, reporting to the Senior Administrative Assistant and the Chief of Visitors Services Section. This is a temporary position, subject to funding availability and potential extension.
Job Purpose
The Treasury Clerk plays a crucial role in supporting the Guided Tours Operation within the UN Headquarters Visitor Centre. This position is responsible for accurately and efficiently selling tour tickets, greeting visitors professionally, and providing essential information about tours and the UN. The role involves maintaining smooth operations at the ticket desk through clear communication with colleagues, securing and recording revenue according to UN regulations, and balancing daily financial reports. Additionally, the Treasury Clerk assists with financial reporting, account receivables, IT equipment distribution, and general administrative support to ensure the efficient functioning of the Visitors Services Section. This role directly contributes to the visitor experience and the operational efficiency of the department.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include accurately selling tour tickets and managing revenue through the ticketing system in compliance with UN accounting rules. The role involves greeting visitors professionally, providing information on tours and the UN, and maintaining effective communication with cashiers, tour guides, and coordinators to ensure smooth ticket desk operations. Daily close-out reports must be balanced, and collected revenue deposited. The Treasury Clerk will assist in recording daily and monthly financial reports, verifying the accuracy of financial documents, and following up on account receivables. Additional duties include responding to visitor inquiries via email, supporting the distribution and record-keeping of IT property, and providing general office support to the unit and section. Performing other administrative duties as needed is also expected.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in banking/cashiering, accounting, or bookkeeping is required. Experience with Point-of-Sale systems for cash transactions, Umoja or similar ERP systems, and back-end ticketing systems is necessary. Two years of general office support experience is also required. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, and prior work with the UN or international organizations are desirable.
