Organizational Context
This internship is within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) New York Office. The role is part of the UNCTAD New York Office's engagement with intergovernmental processes and UN system entities. The intern will work under the supervision of a senior staff member, contributing to UNCTAD's activities and outreach.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide students and recent graduates with practical experience in international affairs and trade and development. The intern will support the UNCTAD New York Office by assisting in monitoring key UN meetings, contributing to inter-agency activities, and preparing briefings and meeting support. This role aims to enhance the intern's educational experience by exposing them to the work of the UN and UNCTAD, fostering a deeper understanding of global economic issues and intergovernmental processes, and developing their professional skills in a dynamic international environment.
Responsibilities
Assist in monitoring and summarizing relevant meetings of the UN General Assembly, ECOSOC, and inter-agency dialogues. Contribute to activities with UN system entities, including ECOSOC Secretariat and DESA. Support UNCTAD staff by organizing meetings with Member States, UN agencies, and stakeholders. Update and improve NYO databases, conduct internet research, and catalogue information related to UNCTAD's work. Maintain NYO's electronic communications and outreach products. Prepare inputs for staff participating in intergovernmental processes. Contribute to the social media outreach strategy. Undertake other necessary tasks as assigned, adhering to all UN rules and regulations.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants should have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is important. Applicants should also be computer literate in standard software applications.
