Job Purpose
The Communication and Advocacy Consultant will primarily support the Tehran Convention Secretariat by managing its communication, advocacy, and translation needs. This involves a comprehensive overhaul of the Convention's digital presence, including updating and relaunching its website with modern solutions, and developing engaging social media content, particularly for its 20th anniversary. The role is crucial for enhancing stakeholder collaboration within the Caspian region and producing diverse advocacy materials, such as short films and audio-visual products, to raise awareness. The consultant will also support donor visibility and lead campaigns targeting various media outlets, especially around Caspian Sea Day. Additionally, the role entails preparing substantive written outputs like background papers and analytical notes, offering support for regional meetings on environmental topics, and ensuring accurate, harmonized translation of outreach materials and the website between English and Russian. This position significantly contributes to the Convention's outreach and policy objectives.
Responsibilities
The consultant will undertake key responsibilities across communication, advocacy, and translation. Communication: This involves updating and relaunching the Tehran Convention website with modern layouts and technical solutions, developing engaging content for social media channels to mark the 20th anniversary, and maintaining an updated information database and photo library. The role also includes assisting in fostering collaboration with Caspian stakeholders, producing diverse advocacy and communication materials such as short movies, high-quality images, and other printed/audio-visual products. Furthermore, the consultant will support donor visibility efforts through customized communication products and contribute to the creation and promotion of campaigns targeting local, national, and international media, particularly for Caspian Sea Day celebrations. Advocacy: Responsibilities include preparing various written outputs, such as drafting background papers, analytical notes, and sections for reports. The consultant will also provide substantive support for regional meetings addressing marine litter and other pertinent topics under the Tehran Convention framework. Translation: This entails preparing outreach materials for the TC Secretariat in both English and Russian languages, and ensuring the harmonization of the Russian and English versions of the Tehran Convention website for consistency and accuracy.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in communication, media, or related fields at national or international levels is required. Desirable experience includes managing and analyzing social media content, maintaining web content, running digital outreach campaigns, media liaison, managing contact lists, monitoring coverage, and preparing press materials. Experience in drafting and editing engaging content (briefs, infographics, videos) in Russian and English, developing communication strategies, and engaging with Caspian Sea region stakeholders is also desirable.
