The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development within the UN system. The Ecosystems Division provides technical assistance and capacity building to developing countries. This internship is based in Nairobi, Kenya, supporting the Ecosystems Division's programme coordination and management.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Ecosystems Division's programme coordination and management functions at the UNEP office in Nairobi. The intern will assist in monitoring project implementation progress, managing project lifecycles, and ensuring data accuracy in relevant systems. Responsibilities include supporting financial implementation analysis, reviewing publication concepts for policy alignment, and tracking clearance processes. The role also involves providing flexible support to unit functions as needed, contributing to the efficient operation of the division's environmental initiatives and policy development.
Responsibilities
Assist in monitoring project implementation progress and reporting using the Division's Project Portfolio Dashboard and Integrated Planning, Monitoring and Reporting (IPMR) system. Support the management of the project lifecycle, including operational closure. Ensure data entry, validation, and accuracy of project-related information within IPMR and other relevant databases. Analyze the status of financial implementation using available information systems. Conduct quality assurance reviews of publication concepts and full publications, verifying alignment with UNEP Publishing Policy and Guidelines. Track the clearance process for publications and concepts, updating relevant tracking tools and master files. Provide flexible and ad hoc support to the unit's functions as required.
Work Experience

However, applicants should possess computer literacy in standard software applications, with good knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Demonstrated interest in the UN's work and a commitment to its ideals are expected.
