Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in economic affairs within the UN Secretariat's Economic Commission for Africa, specifically at the Sub-Regional Office for Southern Africa (SRO-SA). The intern will support the implementation of technical assistance projects by assisting Economic Affairs Officers with various tasks. This includes preparing project documentation, organizing workshops, conducting research and analysis on economic development topics like inclusive industrialization and MSMEs, and contributing to data management and reporting. The role is designed to offer hands-on experience in project support, research, and administrative functions within a UN context, contributing to the office's deliverables and impacts.
Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation and updating of project activity calendars and timelines. Support the creation of substantive documents, concept notes, agendas, and other materials for workshops and meetings. Aid in the planning and organization of workshops and meetings, including drafting invitations and following up with participants. Conduct literature reviews, research, and analysis on topics such as inclusive industrialization and MSMEs to inform office outputs like reports and policy briefs. Assist in data collection and analysis for relevant databases and indicators. Contribute to developing and updating country strategies and profiles. Support the establishment and maintenance of project databases. Prepare communications materials for disseminating project outputs. Perform administrative tasks related to project execution and ad-hoc requests to ensure timely delivery of project objectives.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is explicitly required for this internship. However, a research background in industrial economics, International Economics/Trade/Regional integration is considered an asset. Familiarity with economic software, modeling tools, and data analysis is also advantageous.
