Organizational Context
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Secretariat, based at the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), supports the IGF's mandate to discuss public policy issues related to Internet governance. Established by the World Summit on the Information Society and made a permanent UN forum in 2026, the IGF fosters the sustainability, robustness, security, stability, and development of the Internet.
Job Purpose
This remote internship within the IGF Secretariat aims to support the team in technical and program facilitation for the annual IGF meeting and its intersessional activities. The intern will contribute to the further development of the IGF, including capacity building initiatives. Key contributions involve assisting with program platforms, website functions, web application functionality, social media campaigns, training for remote participation staff, data compilation, and supporting the design of output documents and other program components.
Responsibilities
Provide technical and program support for IGF platforms, including scheduling, room reservations, and remote participation setups. Assist with the technical and substantive aspects of the IGF website, including its functions and design. Support the functionality of the IGF web application and the implementation of social media campaigns. Aid in delivering training for remote participation support staff and compile annual participation statistics and media analysis. Contribute to the planning and development of IGF intersessional work, national, regional, and youth IGF initiatives, and capacity development efforts. Assist with interface design and layout for IGF output documents and other related program components.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this UN Internship Programme. However, a relevant field of study is necessary. Applicants must be students in the final year of a bachelor's degree program or higher, or have completed such a program.
Skills
Proficiency in standard software applications (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams). Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable. Experience designing surveys and polls is also desirable.
