Organizational Context
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Secretariat, based at the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), facilitates multistakeholder policy dialogue on public policy issues related to Internet governance. Established by the World Summit on the Information Society and made a permanent UN forum in December 2026, the IGF aims to foster the sustainability, robustness, security, stability, and development of the Internet.
Job Purpose
This internship within the IGF Secretariat in Geneva provides an opportunity to support the team in technical and program facilitation. The role contributes to the further development of the annual IGF meeting and its intersessional activities, including capacity development initiatives. The intern will assist with various program platforms, website functions, web application functionality, social media campaigns, training delivery, data compilation, and the design of output documents, playing a key role in the operational success and outreach of the IGF.
Responsibilities
Provide support to the IGF's program platforms, including scheduling, room reservation, and remote participation systems. Assist with technical and substantive aspects of the IGF website, including functions and design. Support the functionality of the IGF web application and the implementation of social media campaigns. Aid in delivering training for remote participation support staff. Compile annual participation statistics and conduct media analysis. Support the planning and development of IGF intersessional work, national, regional, and youth IGF initiatives, and capacity development programs. Assist with interface design or layout for IGF output documents and other program components related to intersessional work and the annual meeting.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this UN Internship Programme. However, a relevant field of study is necessary. Applicants must be students in the final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such a program.
Skills
Good knowledge of standard software applications (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams). Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
