Organizational Context
The UNODC Programme Office in Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, operates under the Regional Office for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran and Pakistan (ROCA). It supports national efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking, organized crime, corruption, terrorism, and emerging security threats. The office provides technical assistance, capacity building, and policy support across various domains, strengthening Turkmenistan’s law enforcement, justice, security, and health systems.
Job Purpose
This internship provides crucial support to the UNODC Programme Office in Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, contributing to the implementation of activities within the UNODC Programme for Central Asia 2022-2027. The role involves assisting in the organization of meetings, conferences, and events to enhance strategic engagement with UN system partners. It also includes providing general support in processing and finalizing training materials, assisting with social media campaigns, and developing communication materials. Furthermore, the intern will aid in data collection and analysis related to science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development, as well as support operational functions such as finance, procurement, HR, and general administration, and assist with archiving processes.
Responsibilities
Provide support for organizing meetings, events, and conferences to strengthen strategic engagement with UN system partners. Offer general assistance in processing, drafting, and finalizing training materials. Assist in social media campaigns and the development of communication materials highlighting good practices and achievements. Support data collection and conduct web research and analysis on science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development issues. Add data to relevant databases. Provide operational support in areas including finance, procurement, human resources, and general administration. Assist with archiving tasks, including preparing procurement materials, registering archived files, and updating the register of archived files.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. A demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is also required.
Skills
Proficiency in standard software applications. Demonstrated interest in UN work and commitment to UN Charter ideals. Ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds. Fluency in English and Russian. Knowledge of Turkmen is desirable.
