Organizational Context
The United Nations Statistics Division, under the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, is seeking a Project Coordinator Consultant. This role supports the Inter-Secretariat Working Group on Household Surveys (ISWGHS) Task Force on Sustainable Demographic and Health Statistics through Surveys. The consultant will coordinate global activities related to national data production and system development.
Job Purpose
The Project Coordinator Consultant will manage and coordinate national-level activities for the ISWGHS Task Force, focusing on developing sustainable demographic and health data systems. This involves engaging participating countries, guiding national focal points on tool implementation, and providing continuous support throughout the national implementation phase. The role contributes to defining country pathways for health and population data and building the Blueprint for sustainable data systems, ensuring nationally owned and internationally comparable data production. The coordinator will also document agreements, track project progress, and prepare plans for managing collected information, ultimately supporting the Task Force's objectives and reporting to the UN Statistical Commission.
Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator Consultant is responsible for managing all aspects of the global coordination of the national-level exercise across participating countries. Key duties include engaging countries by confirming participation, preparing invitations, identifying focal points, and conducting orientation webinars. The consultant will provide guidance to national focal points on implementing exercise tools, such as questionnaire templates and completion guidance notes, and offer continuous support to country teams. Responsibilities also encompass documenting agreements from stakeholder meetings, conducting regular follow-ups to ensure milestones are met and timelines are adhered to, and maintaining tracking of project workplans, country templates, and consultation records. Additionally, the role involves preparing a draft plan for managing collected information and supporting presentations and briefings for the Task Force.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience in statistical systems, demographic and health data, or intergovernmental coordination is required. Demonstrated experience working with national statistical systems in low- or middle-income countries, particularly with NSOs on household surveys or demographic and health data systems, is essential. Prior experience coordinating multi-country exercises or programmes within a UN or intergovernmental context is desired.
