Organizational Context
The Office of the Special Coordinator on Improving the United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSCSEA) supports UN efforts to strengthen responses to sexual exploitation and abuse across peacekeeping, humanitarian, development, and human rights sectors. This internship is based in New York and will support OSCSEA's data analysis and visualization capacities.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Office of the Special Coordinator on Improving the United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSCSEA) by enhancing its data analysis and visualization capabilities. The intern will contribute to strengthening accountability, transparency, and strategic decision-making processes related to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA). By cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing SEA-related data, the intern will help produce reports, identify trends, and develop compelling visual materials. This role is crucial for improving the UN's overall response to SEA, supporting prevention strategies, and informing advocacy and communication efforts. The intern will work under the supervision of a staff member, gaining practical experience in data management and its application within a global organizational context.
Responsibilities
The intern will be responsible for cleaning and organizing raw data pertaining to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA). This includes performing qualitative and quantitative data analysis, such as trend analysis, to support OSCSEA's reporting, prevention, and response strategies. A key duty involves developing and enhancing dashboards and data visualizations using tools like Power BI, Verint, and Excel. The intern will also draft visual storytelling materials, infographics, and presentations to aid decision-making, advocacy, and communication. Additional responsibilities include supporting system-wide SEA data coordination projects, analyzing gaps in iReport, and collating user recommendations for data collection improvements. The role also involves participating in brainstorming sessions for workflow enhancements and proposing innovative data solutions, as well as supporting the analysis and dissemination of annual survey results on PSEA. General office support, including correspondence, is also expected.
