Organizational Context
The United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) in Laayoune seeks an IC Nurse to support the Medical Unit. This role is crucial for maintaining health care services, preventing health hazards for all staff, and managing medical administrative tasks within the mission.
Job Purpose
The IC Nurse will participate in the daily clinical operations of the MINURSO Medical Unit, performing clinical assessments, providing care, and facilitating referrals. The role involves responding to emergencies, assisting Medical Officers, and ensuring effective communication with external medical services. The incumbent will also escort patients on medical evacuations, perform diagnostic tests, manage immunization records, and maintain patient confidentiality in the medical database. Additionally, the nurse will contribute to health education programs, participate in work environment assessments, and prepare medical statistics, all while upholding the mission's health standards and operational requirements.
Responsibilities
Participate in daily clinical operations at MINURSO Headquarters and team sites. Conduct clinical assessments, provide care, and refer patients as needed. Respond to emergency calls and assist Medical Officers. Facilitate communication between patients and external medical providers. Escort patients on medical evacuations and provide emergency care. Perform diagnostic and screening tests (ECG, lab tests). Participate in emergency service rosters. Administer vaccinations and advise on immunization status. Maintain patient records in the medical database with confidentiality. Prepare medical statistics. Assist with health education and promotion programs. Participate in work environment assessments. Perform other duties as required.
Work Experience
At least five years of continuous clinical nursing experience or experience as a first responder in a remote environment is required. Experience in UN mission administration or with medical facilities in an international setting is desirable.
