Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The UNEP New York Office focuses on strategic linkages within the UN system, with partners, and stakeholders, particularly concerning interagency and intergovernmental processes at UN Headquarters. This internship is based in the New York Office.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in environmental affairs within the UN system. The intern will support the UNEP New York Office by attending and summarizing key UN meetings, researching developments related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other intergovernmental processes. The role also involves assisting in the preparation and organization of UNEP events and contributing to analytical products on global environmental trends. This position offers exposure to international environmental policy and intergovernmental negotiations.
Responsibilities
Attend and summarize key discussions from meetings at UN Headquarters, including those of the UN General Assembly, ECOSOC, and UN missions. Research and summarize significant developments concerning the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other intergovernmental outcomes. Conduct research to support UNEP's analytical products on trends in intergovernmental processes. Assist in the planning and organization of UNEP meetings, briefings, roundtables, seminars, and other events held at UN Headquarters. Help prepare necessary documents and arrangements for these events.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Applicants must be enrolled in or have recently completed a relevant university degree program.

Meeting attendance and summarization, Research and analysis, Event planning and organization, Document preparation, Fluency in English, Knowledge of an additional UN language (advantageous).
