Organizational Context
The UNODC Programme Office in Kazakhstan, operating under the Regional Office for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran and Pakistan (ROCA), supports the Government in addressing key challenges related to drugs, crime, corruption, terrorism, and transnational security threats. The Office delivers technical assistance in counter-narcotics, organized crime, border management, anti-corruption, and criminal justice reform. It strengthens law enforcement, justice, security, and health systems, promoting regional cooperation. This internship is located within this office in Astana.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide comprehensive support to the UNODC Programme Office in Kazakhstan, Astana, specifically within the framework of the UNODC Programme for Central Asia 2022-2027. The intern will contribute significantly to the office's mandate of assisting the Government of Kazakhstan in addressing critical challenges related to drugs, crime, corruption, terrorism, and emerging transnational security threats. This role involves facilitating the implementation of various program activities, enhancing strategic engagement with UN system partners, and supporting communication and operational functions. The intern's contribution will be instrumental in advancing the office's technical assistance delivery, strengthening national capacities in law enforcement, justice, security, and health systems, and promoting regional cooperation. This position ensures effective program execution, data management, and communication of achievements, thereby contributing to the overall impact of UNODC's strategic frameworks in the region.
Responsibilities
The intern will provide comprehensive support for the implementation of activities within the UNODC Programme for Central Asia 2022-2027. Main duties include:
* **Event and Partnership Facilitation:** Supporting the organization of diverse meetings, events, conferences, and side events to enhance strategic engagement and collaboration with UN system partners.
* **Communication and Material Development:** Assisting in the creation and execution of social media campaigns, and developing communication materials that showcase good practices, impact examples, and program achievements. This also involves processing, drafting, and finalizing essential training materials.
* **Research, Analysis, and Data Management:** Contributing to data collection efforts concerning science, technology, and innovation practices. Conducting thorough web research and providing analytical insights on science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development issues. Responsibilities also include accurately adding and maintaining data within relevant databases.
* **Operational and Administrative Assistance:** Offering crucial support across various operational functions, including finance, procurement, human resources, and general administration. This encompasses meticulous archiving tasks, such as preparing procurement documents for archiving, registering archived files, and ensuring the archive register is consistently updated.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have recently completed a degree in a field of study directly relevant to the internship's focus.
Skills
Required skills and competencies include:
* Computer literacy in standard software applications.
* Strong interest in the United Nations' work and commitment to its Charter.
* Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, showing tolerance and understanding.
* Fluency in spoken and written English and Russian.
* Knowledge of Kazakh is desirable.
