Organizational Context
The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD), part of the Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), is located in Kathmandu, Nepal. It supports Asia-Pacific countries in achieving peace, security, and disarmament goals through substantive assistance, coordination, and information sharing on global and regional initiatives.
Job Purpose
This internship offers an opportunity to support UNRCPD's programmatic areas, including Weapons of Mass Destruction, Conventional Arms, Disarmament Education, and Cross-cutting Issues. The intern will contribute to strategic communications, public outreach, and the organization of events. The role aims to provide practical experience in disarmament and non-proliferation efforts, assisting Member States in implementing international agreements and advancing peace and disarmament education within the Asia-Pacific region.
Responsibilities
Assist with strategic communications and public outreach activities, including preparing media and communication products for the Office's website and social media. Draft and edit publications such as fact sheets, brochures, and newsletters. Prepare presentations, outreach materials, and visual content. Conduct background research on disarmament, arms control, and non-proliferation issues. Provide logistical and administrative support for organizing meetings, workshops, seminars, and training activities. Prepare meeting notes and briefing materials. Contribute ideas for communication, outreach, and design initiatives. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be students in the final year of a university degree program (Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D.) or have completed such a program. All past work experience, IT skills, and language proficiency should be included in the application.
